David Franz Cellar Door

Writer's picture: BGi Building GroupBGi Building Group

Client: David Franz Cellar Door

Project Type: Winery

Location: Stone Well, South Australia

Project Summary:

The existing ironstone barn was restored and extended to create a cellar door for the David Franz wine label.

BGi collaborated closely with the owners, who wanted to ensure the historical essence of the building was celebrated through the construction.

Construction involved repointing and creating new openings in the iron store walls. The entire roof was cladded with recycled corrugated iron, allowing for a double skin to enable insulation to be installed.

A new perimeter verandah was constructed, and a new commercial kitchen and toilet block were added to the building. Polished concrete floors and a timber verandah were also built, allowing visitors to take in the magnificent views.
